Where is Irish identity in 21st century culture? Where does Ireland and its diaspora stand within modern global political constructs? What lessons does Ireland provide for the contemporary world? What can Ireland learn about the new challenges of current identity politics?

The Irish Studies Program at St. Thomas University, and the Ireland Canada University Foundation, welcomes you to Summer Symposium 2017: Irish Identity, Auto/Biography, and Language.

Ireland’s recent commemoration of the 1916 Easter Rising highlighted the nature of its nationalism and identity through political, social, linguistic and biographical reflections. This symposium will discuss and examine explorations on language, linguistic discourse, and auto/biography in regards to the past, present and future evolving identity of Irishness and Irish nationalism around the world.

Organized and hosted by the Irish Studies Program.
