Excellence in Teaching Award
Nominated by students, alumni or colleagues, our Excellence in Teaching Award is given annually to a professor who demonstrates exceptional qualities as a teacher while instructing, researching, enhancing scholarship and participating in community service. This professor encourages, challenges, inspires and prepares students for success while in the classroom and finds a way to ensure all students excel at their highest learning potential throughout their academic pursuits and beyond. To honour the contributions of the late John McKendy, St. Thomas University will rename the Excellence in Teaching Award the Professor John McKendy Memorial Award for Excellence in Teaching beginning in 2010.

Excellence in Teaching Award for Part-Time Faculty
Similar to our Excellence in Teaching Award, this award is for a part-time faculty member who demonstrates exceptional qualities as a teacher while instructing, researching, enhancing a specific scholarship and participating in community service. This part-time professor encourages, challenges, inspires and prepares his or her students for success while in the classroom and finds a way to ensure all students excel at their highest learning potential throughout their academic pursuits and beyond. These professors are nominated by students, alumni or their colleagues.

Instructional Leadership Award
Our Instructional Leadership Award is given to a professor who demonstrates leadership among faculty colleagues in developing institutional structures and processes, pursues activities that help create an environment that fosters excellence in teaching, participates in efforts to improve the quality of instruction to students and assists colleagues in improving their teaching. Nominated by faculty or academic administrators, this professor also organizes or participates in workshops, symposia or conferences on improving teaching methods, and uses the knowledge of these innovative techniques by practicing them in the classroom.

Special Merit for Research Award
Each year, St. Thomas University recognizes full-time faculty with Special Merit Awards for Research. These awards are for faculty members who demonstrate a wealth of research activity within their specialized field. Nominated by individuals within the St. Thomas community, special emphasis is placed on the previous year of research, although an entire career is considered by the awards committee.
