Bachelor of Education
Great teachers can change lives. They lead and mentor,
challenge and inspire, and help students reach
their potential. The Bachelor of Education programme
creates great teachers by combining professional courses with extensive classroom experience.
The Bachelor of Education is a 60 credit-hour programme
delivered in 11 months that offers the same
course work and certification as two-year programmes.
It builds on previous undergraduate
degrees in arts, science, commerce, or other comparable
programmes, as students are expected to have
sufficient background in a subject area to effectively
teach content.
Education students concentrate either in elementary
(K-5), secondary (6-12), or French second language
teaching through co-operative learning and teamwork,
along with practical teaching techniques. A
high level of interaction with peers, and challenging
demands on time, energy, and ability, simulate the
work expected of public school teachers.
Applicants come from universities across Canada,
and as enrollment is limited to 90 students, admission
is competitive. The Bachelor of Arts from
St. Thomas University provides an ideal academic
preparation for the Education programme.
