Selections from the Bellagio Suite”

St. Thomas University’s Yellow Box Gallery will  present the work of the renowned Canadian artist Sky Pape in her first solo exhibition in Canada. The exhibition, “Selections from the Bellagio Suite”, will feature recent works completed during her residency at the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center in northern Italy. Sky Pape has in this exhibition created a new and compelling interpretation of the landscape genre offering new vistas of interpretation to category of painting so enmeshed in Canadian art history.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalog with a critical essay by Jo Anna Isaak Ph.D., author, curator, educator and Chair of Art History at Fordham University in New York.

Sky Pape 

Sky Pape is an internationally recognized Canadian artist was born and raised in Ontario and attended Queen’s University before attending the Art Students League of New York. She has received numerous awards including support from the Canada Council, the Pollock Krasner Foundation, and the Bogliasco Foundation.

 

Sky Pape is one of the most promising artists of her generation offering a unique and transcendent interpretation of the landscape genre. Her work can be found in the Art Gallery of Ontario collection as well as the Museum of Modern Art; the Guggenheim Museum; Neue Gesellschaft für Bildende Kunst, Berlin; Brooklyn Museum of Art; National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC; and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Santa Barbara CA. Her work has been exhibited throughout America, and internationally in Japan, and Europe including Berlin, London, Dublin, Brussels, Antwerp, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Vienna, Zurich, Milan, and Barcelona.
