Webpage FAQs

Webpage Problems:

  1. Where should I have my webpage?
  2. How do I create a link on my webpage?

Webpage Solutions:

1. Where should I save my webpage?

You should always save your web page to your f: drive in your public_html folder. That is the only way that your page can be put on the web by you or your professor.

2. How do I create a link on my webpage?

In your editing window, highlight the text or image that you would like to link. At the top of the screen, just below the menu bar, Click on the option on the tool bar called ‘Link’. Then type in the file path to where you would like to link your page. Or select ‘choose file’, locate the file that you want to link to, click it once, click ‘open’, ‘apply’ and ‘close’.

For example, http://people.stu.ca/~gxxxx/index1.htm. Make sure the name of the file is correct. This program is case sensitive. If you type ‘Index’ in the file path, but you named your file ‘index’, your link will not work. Once you’ve chosen your file path, just click apply and close the window. You should SAVE your work after you’ve make a link and click ‘Preview’ at the top of the screen to see if the link is working properly.

Try your link in the preview window. If it works, you can then close out of the preview window and it will bring you back to your editing window, where you can then make more changes to your web page.

Note: you can only make a link from your web page to another html page. So, be sure to convert your work to html by saving your document as HTML in the ‘file type:’ field in the ‘save as’ window.
