Annual Giving Campaign for Students

Our students have been supported over the years by the thoughtfulness and generosity of alumni, friends, faculty and staff. Through donations, endowments, bequests and other forms of giving, we have been able to offer our students a unique education - St. Thomas is now recognized as one of the best undergraduate universities in the country. We now have one of the largest liberal arts enrolments in Atlantic Canada and are the only exclusively liberal arts university in the country.

Continuing Their Legacy

As we begin our second century, we want to celebrate those who have shaped St. Thomas, those who have touched the lives of our students.

Your gift will honour these cherished members of our community and will result in even more financial support for today’s students.

  • Msgr. George Martin Scholarship - Honouring an alumnus who served the university for 41 years and was president from 1975-1990, this scholarship rewards entering students of outstanding academic ability, achievement and leadership.

  • Msgr. Donald Duffie Memorial Scholarship - In memory of the president from 1961-75, this upper-year scholarship is awarded to students who have achieved academic standing and contributed to student life.

  • John McKendy Bursary - Celebrating the late John McKendy, a loving father, Quaker and professor of Sociology who embodied the University’s mission, this new bursary is awarded on the basis of financial need.

  • Evelyn Sweezey Scholarship - Dedicated to our long-time director of admissions, this scholarship is for students entering St. Thomas University who have demonstrated academic excellence.

  • Brian Ouellette Bursary - Bursaries awarded annually to students in the bachelor of social work programme in honour of a long-serving professor who touched so many lives.

  • Hazel Lahey Bursary - In memory of our long-time dean of women and avid defender of her “girls” in Vanier Hall, this bursary is awarded to female students from New Brunswick.

  • Fenton Burke Memorial Bursary - In memory of the former chair and member of the department of English for almost four decades, this bursary is awarded to students majoring in English who have demonstrated high academic standing.

  • Harry Rigby Bursary - Honouring professor Harry Rigby, founder and director of The Thomists and former dean of men, this bursary is based on financial need with preference to musicians or residence leaders.
