Tommies Women's Hockey: A Quick Look Back at 2011-2012
Published: Thursday, Mar 29, 2012
This year’s edition of the Tommies Women’s Hockey Program came into the season as a young team looking to compete game in game out this season.
In preseason, they made the finals of the Moncton Invitational tournament but struggled in the first half of the regular season, though their point totals kept them in the race.
In the second half, the Tommies came alive as they reeled off victories against fourth ranked St. FX and twice against sixth ranked Moncton including a heart stopping overtime victory in the final Tommies game ever to be played at the LBR.
This set them in fifth to finish the season and in the AUS playoff tournament. The parity of the league showed once again as all six teams went through the tournament with identical one and one records.
Unfortunately, the team did not advance to the finals but the they did show well in the AUS awards with Kayla Blackmore being named a second team all-star and recipient of the AUS Marion Hillard Award for commitment to athletics, academics and community. Kayla was also named as St. Thomas’ nominee for the AUS James Bayer Award and Danielle Miller was named to the conference all-rookie team.
Team Awards:
Rookie of the year: Danielle Miller
