Career Resource Centre and Career Exploration

Free career development workshops and career advising are available to St. Thomas University students through the Career Development and Employment Centre on UNB’s Fredericton Campus. If you are thinking about what you can do with your degree program, need help identifying possibilities within your field, or having difficulty locating career information, the CDEC is here to help.

CAREER EXPLORATION – Designing your career path

Do you need help discovering what career path is ideal for your unique set of interests, skills, strengths, values and personality? This two part workshop will provide you with the resources necessary to successfully design your career path.

Part 1 – Career Exploration – Self-Identification – Know Yourself

What are your strengths, values, interests, skills, traits and what is your vision for the future?  Understanding these things is the first step in planning your career.  During this workshop you will complete assessments and activities to help you discover who you are and some possible careers that fit for you.

Part 2 – Career Exploration – Exploring Options

Now that you have discovered possible career options, how do you get there?  In this workshop you will be provided with websites and resources to help you research occupations and training paths.  You will leave this workshop with the tools you need to make informed career decisions.

Workshops Offered Through Student Employment

Once you know your career or employment goal, the Student Employment Team at STU can help you with the job-search strategies needed to get your foot in the door.  

  • Resumes, References and Cover Letters: A requirement for our on-campus employment programs, this workshop busts common myths when writing your resumes while teaching you how to clearly articulate your skills and experiences in a way employers can understand. Don’t apply for a job without attending this workshop!  After attending the workshop, you can book a one-on-one appointment with Student Employment staff to apply what you’ve learned.
    • Every Monday at 9:30 am in GMH 304 until April 11
    • Every Friday at 2:30 pm in GMH 304 until April 11
  • Strategic Summer Job Search: Employers expect students to have some career-related work experience on their resume by the time they graduate. A summer job that allows you to develop your skills is key to not only earning much-needed cash but also gaining the experience you need to get into grad school or enter the workforce. Learn about the valuable summer work programs available to you and how to apply for them.
    • Every Friday at 2:30 pm in GMH 301 until April 11
  • Graduating Students’ Workshop (starting in January, 2018): Graduating in 2018? Attend this event to get a head start on managing your post-grad life. We’ll answer questions about repaying student loans, searching for jobs, and tapping into programs that can help you!
    • Every Friday at 2:30 pm in GMH 204 until April 11
