STU Tommies In Action Saturday and Sunday

Date: Sep 23, 2012
Time: 4:00 PM-5:00 PM
Location: Scotiabank South, LBR, College Field, Fredericton, NB, Canada

Saturday

Women’s and men’s soccer are back in action Saturday evening against Dalhousie Agricultural Campus Rams, 4 and 6 pm respectively from Scotiabank Park South. Both Tommies teams handily defeated the Rams in their first meeting of the season, with the men playing to a 4-2 win, while the women took the match 8 – 0. The women sit in third place in the ACAA standings with six points, just three behind MSVU and Holland College for first. The men are fourth currently with five points, just two points behind the same two squads for first, four games into their schedule.

Sunday

A busy Sunday gets going with a pair of matchups between the Tommies soccer squads and the Holland College Hurricanes. The women kick off at 11 am and the men at 1 pm from Scotiabank Park South. These teams squared off in Charlottetown two weeks ago where the Tommie women, after leading 1 – 0, fell 5 – 1 to the Hurricanes and will be hungry to change the outcome this time. The Hurricane men are defending ACAA champions but could not solve the Tommies in their last meeting, playing to a 1 – 1 draw.

Women’s rugby Tommies return home for their third game in 10 days when they host the Acadia Axewomen on Sunday at Scotiabank Park South. The two met in exhibition play last season when the Tommies were still competing in the ACAA. The match resulted in a 10 – 8 victory for the Tommies and a good taste of what they might expect when they entered the AUS conference this season. However, the Aexwomen are hot having picked up wins in both their games this season, but the Tommies will be coming hard as they’re hungry for their first win of the season. Kickoff is 3 pm.

Battle of the Hill men’s rugby edition goes Sunday from College Field at 1 pm. The Tommies look to come out strong against their neighbour and rival Varsity Reds. STU’s season began with a pair of disappointing, yet winnable games against Mt. Allison and UPEI. The Tommies will attempted to change the tide on Sunday.

The women’s hockey Tommies take to the ice at the LBR for their first pre-season action at home on Sunday afternoon. It’s the second half of a home-in-home series with last season’s AUS champions the UPEI Panthers. Puck drop is 3 pm.
