An International Experience Close to Home

St. Thomas University is a leader in liberal arts education. We are the only university in Canada to focus exclusively on liberal arts, and because that’s all we do, we do it very well.

As a student, you will enjoy an education of the same calibre as the most elite American liberal arts colleges while benefiting from a leading scholarship programme and a low tuition, a reflection of our commitment to quality and opportunity.

Explore our innovative programmes, such as Human Rights, Journalism and Communications or Criminology, or create your own major spanning a variety of disciplines. Our close-knit community values the importance of small classes and personalized education with a focus on teaching. With an average class size of 31 students - most much smaller - you’ll be able to ask questions and get to know your classmates and professors.

Attending St. Thomas is an opportunity to try something different - where you won’t experience a great deal of culture shock, but you’ll gain a new perspective on your own country and the rest of the world.

Hi everyone! If you’re an American thinking about coming to university in Canada, I’d love to hear from you and tell you everything you want to know about coming to St. Thomas University. There are so many great reasons to come to school in Canada; price of tuition and the experience of a new culture close to home are just two. As a recent university graduate, I was in your shoes not long ago, so I understand that deciding on a university is fun and exciting while at the same time a bit scary and overwhelming. I’m here to make your decision process easy and enjoyable.

When I graduated from high school, I was looking for a school that would encourage, challenge, and inspire me. I had a good idea of what I wanted to do, but couldn’t find an institution that I felt would get me there. After having a tour of the STU campus and of the city of Fredericton, sitting in on a class, and talking with an admissions counselor, my decision was made.

In May 2009, I graduated with my BA with majors in English and Communications and minors in Journalism and Political Science. My four years at STU and in Fredericton were the best of my life. I learned about literature, politics, people, and the world; most of all I learned about myself: I discovered my strengths and challenged my weaknesses. I learned how to think and how I felt about things that were happening in the world. These are the roots of the liberal arts and what I believe are the essential skills and instruments required to thrive in the world as the greatest version of yourself. Outside of class, I got the chance to live in residence, play varsity soccer, be part of a theatre production, and so much more.

Choosing St. Thomas was one of the best decisions I ever made, and I’m confident that if you chose STU, you’ll someday say the same thing. I hope to hear from you soon!
