Future Students

It’s the small things that make a big difference

At St. Thomas University, we believe smaller is better. Our small size is the reason we are able to give each one of our students a very big university experience.

St. Thomas is the only university of its kind in Canada. We are the only public university in the country wholly dedicated to the study of the liberal arts. For more than 100 years, students have come to St. Thomas from around the world for an inspiring, unique, and meaningful experience.

Our small size allows us to give students the attention they deserve, the support they need, and the opportunities that will help them grow academically and personally.

All of our programs are offered in the spirit of a liberal arts education. Students are challenged to approach their chosen fields of study from different perspectives, to share their opinions, and to engage in discussions and debates in class about how what they’re learning in class relates to the real world.

Unique Programs
Many of our unique-to-the-region programs attract students from around the world. Criminology, Gerontology, Communications and Public Policy, Human Rights, Digital Journalism and New Media, and others bring students to campus, because this is one of the only places in Canada they’re offered. Whether you major in one of these areas or are looking for ways to round out your education, our distinct offerings make St. Thomas a unique place for students.

Moot Court
The Human Rights program offers one of the only undergraduate Moot Court classes in Canada. Travel to various moot court competitions in the United States and argue Supreme Court cases in front of real-world judges. Planning on law school down the line? It’s a great way to prepare!

Harvard Connection
As the first Canadian partner of HBX CORe of the Harvard Business School, St. Thomas offers the enormous opportunity to earn a Credential of Readiness that provides an introduction to the language and concepts of business.

Experienced Journalists
As a journalism student, you won’t just study Digital Journalism and New Media, you’ll practice it. When you’re not in class at the CBC Broadcast Centre and learning to use the web, radio, and TV technology that helps you tell stories, you’ll be writing for the campus newspaper and online publications.
