“Joining the STU community is like joining a community of friends.”
Welcome and thank you for visiting our site! My name is Michelle Monahan and I’m excited to be a part of the STU admissions team. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Business and I am excited to be back. I’ll be traveling to schools across the country, meeting potential students and sharing my knowledge and experiences of my time at STU.
In my last year of high school, I really didn’t know where or what I wanted to study. After meeting with two recruiters from STU and learning about the courses, the close-knit community and the really great extra-curricular activities, I knew that STU was the right choice for me. Joining the STU community is like joining a community of friends. Everyone is so friendly, and you’ll find there is something for everyone here.
If you have any questions, just email me, call me directly, or arrange to visit our campus in person. After their first visit, everyone says that the campus is beautiful, and I am sure you will agree!

My name is Amy MacKenzie and I’m an Admissions Counsellor at St. Thomas University.
I grew up in Pictou, a rural town on the north shore of Nova Scotia. Being in a graduating class of about 30, small class sizes and a sense of community were definitely on my check list when I was looking at universities. I wanted to go to a university that also offered a world-class journalism program and one where professors would know my name. St. Thomas University was a clear choice for me because it offered all those things and more.
I graduated from STU with a BA in Journalism and Political Science in 2012. After that, I had no problem finding a job with references from professors who knew me well, my internships with STU’s partner the CBC and a portfolio of articles I wrote for the student newspaper.
After I graduated, I interned as a reporter at the Telegraph-Journal and worked as a full-time reporter at a daily newspaper in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. Now, I’m excited to have returned to STU as an Admissions Counsellor and I’m looking forward to helping students with one of the biggest decisions they can make: choosing what to do after high school.
If you’ve already chosen St. Thomas or if you’re curious about what we offer, I’m here to help with any questions you might have about studying at and applying to STU. STU is a great choice for post-secondary education with small class sizes, award-winning professors who are experts in their fields and beautiful, inspiring courtyards. Come see it for yourself! You’re sure to fall in love with STU as soon as you step on campus.

"St. Thomas University changed my life."
Hi, my name is Haoyang Liu. I graduated from St. Thomas University as the Valedictorian of Class 2011. As an international student, I enjoyed all the experiences offered at this university.
I came to STU in 2007. It was the first time I left home – Jining, Shandong, China. Although my future was unpredictable, St. Thomas changed everything for me. Faculty, staff and students took care of me like their own family. They offered selfless help whenever I needed. With all the support that St. Thomas provides, I was also able to succeed in class as well as work places, as I worked for three years within the STU Athletic Department.
St. Thomas always works to provide international students with a friendly, welcoming environment and equal opportunities. St. Thomas University changed my life. It provided me with more than a first-class education; it led me to a brighter future.
As an admissions counsellor, I look forward to sharing all my experiences with future STU students from all around the world.

Hi there! I graduated from STU in 2014 with a BA in Journalism and Communications, and a minor in Political Science. I’m originally from Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, USA and had many questions about doing my undergrad in another country. After touring St. Thomas, my hesitations were eliminated and I immediately fell in love with STU and Fredericton. My international experience at STU became the best years of my life. I met my very best friends, and learned so much about the world around me. At STU, the city often becomes your classroom. Fredericton’s vibrant multiculturalism and energetic community makes this riverside college town a perfect place to be a student.
It’s a big decision when choosing which university is the right fit for you, but the welcoming and supportive people at St. Thomas made that transition easy. Students are the number one priority here. It’s shown through admissions, arriving on campus, extra-curricular clubs and events, residence and inside the classroom. The professors are passionate about what they do. They want to teach here for the small and engaging classes that allow us to explore big ideas and challenge the ways of conventional thinking.
My experience at STU was fantastic, and I’m excited to share it with you in your high schools and communities. I worked in international recruitment for three years as a student and loved every minute of it and meeting new students. Please don’t hesitate to contact me! I encourage you to visit campus or set-up a virtual tour to see it for yourself. I can’t wait to chat about the opportunities available to you at St. Thomas.

“Getting a Liberal Arts degree is about getting an education for life.”
Hello prospective students! My name is Elizabeth Murphy and I’m an Admissions Counsellor at St. Thomas University. I am a Saint John (NB) native and I graduated in May with a double major in Political Science and Communications. While I studied at STU, I was heavily involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities. I played women’s soccer, represented students on the University Board of Governors and Senate and held the role of President of the Students’ Union this past year. I have been engaged in many fund-raising initiatives such as: Relay for Life, Trick or Eat and Shinerama. As well, I have always enjoyed being a part of St. Thomas University’s Welcome Week in September. Another highlight of my St. Thomas experience was having the opportunity to study abroad at our sister school in Houston, Texas
I knew I wanted to come to St. Thomas before I graduated high school. I visited campus each year in high school for Drama Fest and fell in love with the beautiful campus. St. Thomas has been like a family to me and that’s not only because of the many relatives who have attended and worked here. To date, two of my three siblings and my mother have degrees from STU, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. The familial and communal culture of St. Thomas did not disappoint.
St. Thomas gave me a university experience parallel to none. Getting a Liberal Arts degree is about getting an education for life and there’s no better place to do it than at St. Thomas.
