Zac Delong has redesigned the website for the national on-line philosophy journal Animus: The Canadian Journal of Philosophy and Humanities. The project was part of the J.O.B.S. (Job Opportunities Benefiting Students) programme at St. Thomas. Delong, a fourth year philosophy major from St. Stephen, NB, will graduate in 2009.
Eli Diamond, St. Thomas professor and managing Editor of Animus, hired Delong as a student editor for Animus through the J.O.B.S. initiative. In consultation with the editorial board, Delong gave the Animus site a fresh design and re-launched the website with significant improvements from the previous site.
"Zac has done a tremendous job with the Animus website, far exceeding my expectations when we started working together,” said Diamond. “From its very beginning Animus has been a first-class philosophical journal in terms of its content, and now this can also be said of its design and functionality.”
Animus was launched in 1996 as the first professional on-line philosophy journal in Canada. Published annually, the journal has an emphasis on the history of philosophy and looks at ways in which understanding past thought helps to clarify contemporary philosophical questions. Animus is inclusive of all humanities discourses; the journal publishes philosophical reflections on art, literature, natural science, and theology.
The J.O.B.S. programme at St. Thomas offers students part-time employment opportunities. Students obtain valuable work experiences and faculty and administrators get assistance with worthwhile initiatives.
“I am very grateful to STU and the J.O.B.S. programme for their support with this project” added Diamond.
