Biography

Born and raised in Peterborough, ON, Kristi completed her PhD at Trent University in Canadian Studies at the Frost Centre for Canadian and Indigenous Studies. Kristi arrived at STU in September 2014 and is learning all about the University and the wider Fredericton community.

As an academic, Kristi spent several years researching the relationship between expressions of masculinity, Canadian national identity and ice hockey. She has written papers on hockey celebrities such as Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin and Don Cherry and examined the experiences of hockey players in the Canadian Hockey League.  She is particularly interested in how one’s engagement with ice hockey impacts their expressions of gender.  As well as this work, she also does work examining aging, fitness and the body – specifically examining how exercise impacts the ways people understand their bodies in later life.

When she is not watching hockey, she enjoys cooking and canning local food.
