“Being a part of a community means supporting one another…”

What We Do

The St. Thomas University Student Food Bank is a student-run initiative meant to help alleviate hunger and affordability issues for all members of our campus community. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, this self-serve anonymous service may be accessed by any student, faculty, or staff member without enough to eat, or currently facing financial hardship. We believe that no one should have to choose between paying their rent, bills, or other scholastic fees and purchasing food.

By offering this service it is our hope that everyone on campus will always have enough to eat. Because when you don’t know where your next meal is coming from, it’s difficult to think about anything else. Also, by providing this service, we allow campus community members to devote their thoughts to what has brought them to St. Thomas in the first place—their work on campus.

The St. Thomas University Student Food Bank recognizes that affordability problems arise for any number of reasons, none of which are any of our business as service administrators. As such, we do not ask those who access the service for personal or financial information. Because everyone needs to eat, access to food is a basic right for every individual, and there is more than enough excess food in our community to feed everyone.

Beyond food service, the St. Thomas University Student Food Bank provides volunteer opportunities for campus community members looking to do something with their spare time. Plus, volunteering for the food bank is a great way to meet people. We are an integral part of the campus community, not only for the services we provide to those facing affordability problems, but also for those students seeking to connect with others or gain skills they might use in other areas of their lives.

Our devoted team of volunteers ensure that our storage cupboard is always full, and our generous community members ensure that when we call on them to help replenish and maintain stock, the calls are answered. Being a part of a community means supporting one another, and the St. Thomas University Student Food Bank is one of many ways that our community members show their support. Whether you are accessing the service, making a donation or becoming an active and regular volunteer, you are an important part of the St. Thomas University Student Food Bank. We invite you to show your support for the STU Food Bank community and the STU community at large by taking part in our “Trick or Eat” food drive, and other events around campus.
