Elsa Sophie Piersig , Secretary-General

Hello delegates! I am Elsa Sophie, a fourth year student at St. Thomas University, and I am working on an Honours in Political Science (Canadian politics), a major in Economics, and two minors. I am very honoured to serve as your Secretary-General for JPHMUN 2011 and I look forward to working together with Tom and Tracey, and meeting all of you in May. Last year I participated in STU’s model UN team that attends the Harvard National Model UN, and this year I am accompanying STU’s delegates as an assistant to STU’s Model UN faculty advisor. Although I have come to love Fredericton, I am originally from inner-city Toronto and I have spent numerous summers in Germany. As a child I picked up competitive figure skating, which is the most amazing combination of art and sport and it is a passion that I continue to enjoy here in Fredericton. In my spare time, which I seem to have very little of, I love to read fantasy, historical fiction, and non-fiction, as well as atlases. I also take pleasure in learning random facts for Trivial Pursuit, cooking gourmet meals, and working with flowers. I have no idea what I want to do when I finish with school, but I think that all figure-skaters feel that way: we never know when to grow up!
Tom Bateman, Conference Coordinator
Hi there! My name is Tom Bateman, and I'm in my third year of Political Science and Communications majors at Saint Thomas University. This year I'll be working with Tracey to help your Secretary-General, Elsa Piersig, make this May's JPHMUN an incredible time for all of you! I've been interested in politics and international issues as long as I can remember. I'm originally from Calgary, Alberta but I've been a Fredericton resident for 7 years. I've also spent 6 months living in Bratislava, Slovakia, which is what ignited my interest in international politics. This winter I am on the Saint Thomas team for the Harvard Model United Nations in Boston. Along with Tracey, I am representing Uruguay on the World Health Organization. Outside of school I love all things skateboarding and snowboarding and play hockey or golf depending on the season. This year, I'm the Photo Editor of the STU campus newspaper, The Aquinian. I'm super excited to meet and work with all of you, and I'm sure we're going to have an awesome weekend together!
Tracey House, Conference Coordinator
Hello delegates. My name is Tracey House and I am a third year student here at St. Thomas University. I am working towards my majors in International Relations and Economics with a business option. I hope after my studies to get into a graduate business program. I am from Glace Bay (Cape Breton), Nova Scotia and I am delighted to serve as your Conference Coordinator for this year’s JPHMUN and work with Elsa and Tom. Last year I was an aide to JPHMUN’s committees and had so much fun that I had to come back! This year I will be participating with Harvard National Model UN team for the first time and I look forward to representing Uruguay on the World Health Organization with Tom. I work on campus with the IT department, which I have been employed with for two years. In my spare time I like to kayak on the Saint John River during the summer months and in the winter I like to skate on Fredericton's outdoor rinks. I cannot wait to meet everyone in May! Please do not hesitate to send an e-mail with any comments, questions or just to introduce yourself!
