About the LTD Committee

The LTD Committee is a Senate Standing Committee that comprises four faculty members appointed by Senate on two-year staggered terms, one annually appointed student representative and the Learning and Teaching Development Officer. It has responsibility for the following:

1. Fostering and promoting reflection on, and discussion of, learning and teaching among the faculty of St. Thomas;

2. Consulting with faculty and students on initiatives to improve the quality of learning and teaching at St. Thomas;

3. Providing learning opportunities for faculty to enhance the quality of learning and teaching at St. Thomas;

4. Promoting and maintaining liaison with similar organizations and offices at other universities;

5. Recommending to Senate, to appropriate Senate committees, and to the university administration actions believed to be in the best interests of improving the climate for learning and teaching at St. Thomas;

6. Acting on initiatives which, from time to time, the Senate will ask of the Learning and Teaching Development Committee;

7. The Learning and Teaching Development Committee will provide an annual report to Senate on its activities;

8. The Learning and Teaching Development Committee shall, when necessary, act as a search committee for the Learning and Teaching Development Officer and make recommendations to the President;

9. The Learning and Teaching Development Committee administers the Innovative Teaching Grants program.
