Teaching and Learning Communities

  1. For Faculty

The LTD Committee is planning to establish a small (6-8 people is ideal) Teaching and Learning Community for Faculty at St. Thomas University. This TLC – Faculty will be working throughout the academic year. It will be designed for STU faculty members who wish to explore and develop their teaching and professional skills. This TLC will operate as a think tank and a support group for ongoing campus issues in Teaching and Learning. Small group discussions will include, amongst other things, outcomes based teaching, in-class formative feedback skills, the development of an integrated teaching portfolio, and various exercises in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). If you wish to enroll in this TLC, 1 page (less than 100 words) expressions of interest, indicating the days and hours you will be available, should be sent to the LTD Committee as soon as possible.

NB: The term STU Faculty includes full time and part time professors.

Expressions of interest should be sent by e-mail to the Chair of the LTD Committee at the following address: rgmoore@stu.ca

  2. For Students

The Director of Teaching and Learning will be meeting throughout the school year with a small group (6-8 people is ideal) of students who wish to explore and develop their learning styles and skills. The TLC will also operate as a think tank and as a student orientated support group for ongoing campus issues in teaching and learning. Contact persons: Daniel Murphy (email: gxlpg@stu.ca) and Mark Henick (e-mail: gyqcx@stu.ca).

  3. For Adult Returning Students

The STARS (St. Thomas University Adult Returning Students) Group was originally founded by Ron Byrne and has now been re-established with the aid of Ms. Jane McGinn-Giberson, Director of Student Life and Retention. The STARS will be meeting regularly throughout the academic year. At present, the STARS meet with the Director of Teaching and Learning every Monday morning at 9:30 am in the Writing Centre. Various academic and support activities are being planned in response to the individual needs of these students. Contact person: Ms. Jane McGinn-Giberson (e-mail jmcginn@stu.ca)
