CHAIRING & PRESENTING

INSTRUCTION FOR CHAIRS

Most sessions are organized around a social process. We have tried, as is true of all previous Qualitative Analysis Conferences, to include both veteran and new researchers in each session. We have selected Chairs whom we have identified as particularly helpful in nurturing and encouraging new researchers and scholars.

As you will note, we have no discussants, leaving the period of questions and comments open to all session participants.

We ask you:

  • not to change the order of presentations;
  • not to allow PowerPoint or other similar presentation for text; however, it is helpful to allow PowerPoint, etc. for presenting visual, non-text images;
  • to allow questions or comments to follow immediately after each presentation, (i.e. do not save them until the end);
  • the questions/comments should last no more than 10 minutes, slotting 30 minutes to each presenter.

NOTES FOR PRESENTERS

  • As a means of making your presentation more lively, please highlight some of the more interesting findings and insights about your research (rather than trying to cover everything). You can always offer attendees your full paper at a later date if they wish to have more information;
  • We are not allowing PowerPoint or other similar presentation for text; however, it is helpful to allow PowerPoint, etc. for presenting visual, non-text image.  Note: overhead projectors will be available;
  • Presenters should not dwell on justifying qualitative research-this is a given among all "Qualitatives" attendees!
  • You would want to avoid spending most of your allotted 20 minutes to discuss methods, leaving only 2 minutes for the more tantalizing and interesting bits of information!
