Nancy Byrne—Vice President Student Life
Hey fellow STU-dents! My name is Nancy Byrne and I am running for the position of Vice President Student Life. I am from Conche, Newfoundland, and am currently in my 3rd year of studies here at St. Thomas and will be graduating next year with my BA (Co-op), Major in Communications. I was a proud Vanier Lady for 2 years, and served on the Vanier Hall House Committee both years. (Residence Experience- Check!). I held the Vanier Hall Representative position on the Students’ Representative Council for the 2005-2006 academic year. (Students’ Union Experience- Check!). I also decided to live off-campus this past year and can therefore relate to the troubles of off-campus students (Off-Campus Experience- Check!). Under the title of VP Student Life, I will be responsible for aiding in the improvement the lives of all students at St. Thomas, regardless of on or off campus, full or part-time. If elected, I will do everything in my power to make STU the best that it can be. I would not run for this position if I did not feel that I was qualified and could do a good job. I am a very honest person, approachable and always open to suggestions as to how our student services can improve, change, etc. With that said, I ask you all to get out there and make an informed decision when casting your ballots. See you on election day! |

Ryan Hall—Vice President Student Life
My name is Ryan Hall and I am in my third year double majoring in English and History. During my time at St. Thomas I have been a house rep in Rigby Hall, as well as an Off Campus Representative on the Student’s Union. Next year I hope to take on a much larger role on the Student’s Union as the VP of Student Life. This would mean that I would be interacting with both administration as well as all students to ensure all services continue to run as smooth as possible. I have a lot of ideas for next year and want to find out what students want as well to make the year the best it can be. So don’t forget to vote and vote for me for VP Student Life on Feb 28th and March 1st. |

Laura Nelson-Hamilton
Vice President Student Life
Hi, my name is Laura Nelson-Hamilton and I’m a third year Anthropology Major. In this year’s election I’m running for Vice President Student Life. Since coming to St. Thomas last year I’ve been involved with the Human Rights Society, Theatre St. Thomas, 78 and have also worked as an ESL tutor. However I count my largest chunk of student activity to be my involvement with the Student Union, where I have been employed as the Meal Exchange Coordinator and Social Issues Advocate over the past two years.
This year, as the Social Issues Advocate, I have organized the Trick-or-Eat Food Drive, Boost Your Eco Environmental Film Festival and the Skip-A-Meal fundraiser for the Community Kitchen. Although I’ve really enjoyed this position, I’ve decided to run for Vice President Student Life in order to take on a new challenge and bring the lessons I have learned from the organization of these initiatives into the larger University community.
As a potential VPSL I am committed to maintaining the student services that are working; like the bus pass, the health plan and Safewheels. But I am also interested in breathing some new life into the Used Book Room, and our current provision of food services to students in financial need. Opening up these services and helping students involve themselves in clubs, societies and athletic activities are important to me. If elected, you can count on me to be a friendly face, and a knowledgeable and committed student representative.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email me at gzdvv@stu.ca or if you see me around campus, say hello and offer your ideas for next year’s student services and activities.
Cheers!
